Bringing a little ZEN into your home

ZEN - that state of mind where we feel worry-free, peaceful and relaxed.

It’s been proven that dogs increase the levels of positivity in homes as well as help us to be more connected emotionally, more social and show more empathy.

Animal boosts our spirits and just makes us feel better. When they excitedly greet us at the door, we’re given a euphoric feeling of happiness that overcomes us and instantly changes our mood.  Whether our body is in motion or sitting still in thought our dog can relax us.  Experts say there is a scientific reason for that.

According to a recent article on healthguide.org, “Dogs in particular can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Caring for a dog can help children grow up more secure and active or provide valuable companionship for older adults. Perhaps most importantly, though, a dog can add real joy and unconditional love to your life.”

When the Fusion Gates team came across the Dog is Good’s new Dog is my Zen design at a recent trade show, we knew it belonged in our collection of screens.  Its design and message follows perfectly with our goal of creating inspired and harmonious spaces. Plus, it made us smile. The Dog is my Zen art screen was created using warm red and gold hues with artwork symbolizing life-force, preservation and all things sacred.

Dog is Good is a Dog lifestyle company that creates gifts and apparel for dog lovers. Located in Los Alamitos, CA, the company delivers messaging that resonates with and inspires dog lovers.  With clever and poignant sentiments, they remind us all how great it feels to be with Dog.

Think about pairing the Dog is my Zen gate with our Chi inspired SunStar design...

DIY Dog Gate for the SUPER FANS!!!

Yes, Fusion Gates is dedicated to harmonious living.  But I have to admit, using our dog and baby gates to symbolize a well-spirited rivalry amongst sports fans....well that's something we couldn't resist. Our DIY screen gives our customers the opportunity to passionately express the love they have for their sport, team and city.  The best part is the interchangeability of our screens! It allows fans to show their team spirit throughout each sports season, from baseball to football to baseball and every sport in between.

We sports fans just love to get our babes and pups into the game!  Check out these two cute articles we found celebrating true "fanhood" amongst Cleveland Indian Fans (article link) and Chicago Cub fans (article link).

Not an artist...no worries!  Here are some super simple ideas to put a little spirit in the places you share with like-minded fans.  All of the major leagues MLB, NFL, NASCAR have online shops that sell official licensed products from decals, clings and stickers that can bring your gate to life.  Add your own personal touch using window markers, paint and colored duct tape found at some of our favorite craft stores like Michael's and JoAnn's.  ...great for adding decorative borders in your team colors.

We also found that patches and pennants can be a very cool medium for designing a screen with some depth and personality.  There's a great site called patchcollection.com that has an amazing selection of licensed logos and graphics for just about any sport and/or team.  Don't forget about Etsy and Ebay...more terrific places to look for vintage memorabilia (baseball cards, school letters...) that can add a unique twist to your sport gate making it a true show piece in your home.

Is there a Super Fan in your home?  Don't forget the holidays are coming up.  Consider giving yourself or your loved one a one-of-a-kind DIY gift they'll enjoy for a lifetime.  Call us and we can brainstorm together.

We would love to see what you would do with with your sports-themed DIY Fusion Gate!  Share with us by emailing a photo of your creation or posting to Facebook, Instagram & more.

Now, back to the game....

The Pink Fund...a real way to help our flock!

The Pink Fund will make a direct bill payment for the maintenance of health insurance premiums and non-medical bills such as, a house or rent payment, a car or vehicle lease payment, utility payments, car insurance payments, and/or license plate tabs. Between 2013 to 2014, three dear friends from my church were diagnosed with breast cancer.  First Tracy, then Patty, then Bridget. We were all shocked and devastated particularly because each one of these women, prior to their diagnosis, were hard working women juggling jobs and families while being deeply involved in activities with both the church and in the community.

Suddenly, these pillars were being told to “relax, chill and focus on your recovery.”  Thanks to Breast Cancer Research, each had a sound playbook for recovery that, if followed, would likely tackle their disease.  But what about the relax and chill part of the healing equation? Few could see how financially they were going to pull it off.  The Pink Fund recently shared the following statistics:

Did you know that?

  • 62% of Americans have less than a $1000 in savings
  • 21% of Americans do not even have a savings account
  • 50% of bankruptcies are the result of illness or illness related job loss
  • In 6 months, a health crisis can throw a family into bankruptcy or homelessness
  • 47% of our national workforce is women
  • 73% of women work full time
  • 31% claim head of household
  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
  • Average treatment lasts 7-8 months

Now in the case of my friends, not one woman asked for money.  I guess it’s just what we women do (or don’t do in this case).  Even if we offered, they would absolutely turn us down and most likely admonish us for even considering it. But, that doesn’t mean the need is not there. Luckily organizations, like The Pink Fund, are set up to do just that -- by making direct bill payments for the maintenance of health insurance premiums and non-medical bills such as mortgage, car and utility payments for breast cancer patients in active treatment.

The Pink Fund has been formed to help breast cancer patients focus on healing, raising their families, and returning to the workplace. The Pink Fund will provide short-term financial aid for a brief period of treatment and recovery. - Molly MacDonaldFounder/President/CEO SurThrivor

How you can make a difference?  Three ways:

1.     Log onto The Pink Fund’s website and make a donation

2.     Purchase a Fusion Gate -- any gate, any style, any size -- and we will donate $20 of the purchase directly to The Pink Fund.

3.    Purchase Fusion Gates' Songbirds in Pink art screen and we will donate an additional $10 to The Pink Fund.

October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, is a great time to remember those friends and family members stricken by this disease and to consider the likelihood that someone in your life will most likely be diagnosed.  Take action.  Our goal is to raise at least $1,000 this month towards this extremely worthy cause.  I hope you will join us.

Thank for your consideration and dedication to harmonious living no matter the circumstance.

Most sincerely,

Donna Potter, President/CEO

Introducing our New Art Screen Designs for Fall 2016

From country wheat fields and ginkgo lined streets to ancient and modernistic architecture, our Fall 2016 Art Screen collection is a spirited study in the duality of nature and stone.

peaceful and optimistic
Our goal in this first design was to illustrate the fluidity of nature.  Growing up on the East Coast, I found this ebb and flow watching the seashore.  When I moved to the midwest the "waves of grain" became my new ocean.  Our Satin Harvest art screen is meant to capture the gracefulness of all living things.  I find it very peaceful and optimistic.

beauty and longevity
Pow!!! And just like that, nature intensifies our senses with colors almost too beautiful to capture. Known for it's beauty and longevity, the Ginkgo Biloba plant was illustrated in two of our new art screens this fall.  The Autumn Ginkgo art screen shows off the ginkgo's fervent gold leaves that brighten city streets on cool fall days from New York to Tokyo to London.  Beauty and longevity...I'll take some of that!

artistic sensibility
Our Bauhaus art screen is one of two border designs we are introducing this fall.   Our inspiration was the modernist movement of the 19th and 20th century which sought to fuse together fine arts with the advancement of industry.  Using this arts and crafts philosophy, we designed the Bauhaus screen with clean lines in hues of earthy taupe and silvery grays creating a look steeped in artistic sensibility.

tailored sophistication
The Greek Key art screen symbolizes the path that leads to eternal bonds of love and friendship.  Like the meander river that inspired the design, the Greek Key border creates a seamless flow of movement from one room to the next.  Sophisticated and clean.

3 Things to Consider when Choosing Your Finish

Have you ever had that moment where you find yourself sitting in your favorite room trying to decide what color of metal element you'd like to incorporate and how? We know that might be a deciding factor for purchasing a Fusion Gate. So, we've put together some great tips we think will help you decide. Read through them and let us know what you think.

1. What finish does your current hardware have?

If your current hardware is in satin nickel, silver or black, making this decision may be easy for you. Your Fusion Gate can be easily matched to your current hard and will fit harmoniously alongside your current decor. However, if you have another finish, such as gold, bronze or stainless, or, if you are hoping to use your Fusion Gate as an accent piece, there are a few additional things to consider.

2. Are there silver or black accents throughout your space?

So, maybe you have a different finish in your home or are hoping to mix a black gate with satin nickel hardware? No worries! This can be done simply by adding a few additional accents to the room. If you are bringing a satin nickel gate into a space filled with gold, black or bronze hardware, add a few satin nickel or silver picture frames or candle sticks to other corners of the space. Black does have an advantage, because as we already know - it's everyone's favorite neutral. However, if you choose to bring in a black gate, make sure there are dark hues throughout, so it will complement your space.

3. What is your current color scheme? Neutral, warm, cool or vibrantly mixed?

Satin nickel fits in perfectly with rooms of gray-shakes, looks great up against dark and dreamy hues such as navy and black and provides the perfect accent to rooms full of bright colors. Black, on the other hand, functions as a neutral and will stand strong amidst any lighter color palette.

These are are thoughts. What are yours? Do you have any great suggestions or color combinations you would suggest? We'd love to hear them in our comments below.

Fusion Gates’ new Satin Nickel finish offers luster and luxury to pups’ world in Westchester.

Who better to introduce you to our new Satin Nickel framed Fusion Gates than my adorable pup-nieces Chelsea and Fanny.  Like these fine royal spaniels, our new finish is drenched with sophistication; complementing the elegant hues of silver, gray and gold featured throughout their newly renovated Westchester County, NY home.

The Trellis design is a perfect fit for the kitchen where the sisters stand watch for mom sightings throughout their day.  The black and silver geometric pattern pull in the black and white artwork and architectural detail of the modern stair rail.

The breakfast room just off the back terrace was a perfect space for our Gray Diamonds pattern, a design that hints of maritime - symbolizing the multitude of sailboats passing through the Long Island sound. (Chasing the boats is one of Chelsea’s favorite pastimes).

What Your Personal Style Says About You

Many things define who we are as a person. Personality is a big one. Personal style is another. When you think about a big, bold personality, big bold colors come to mind. Quiet, thoughtful individuals conjure up images of subtle, muted tones. There seems to be a direct correlation between personality and personal style.

What we surround ourselves with, especially in our homes, usually reflects our personal style. Modern art lover, minimalist, eclectic collector or americana enthusiast — your home’s decor most likely gives you away.

Your choice of pet says a lot about who you are too. Cat lovers are known to be relaxed people who like to cuddle. Dog lover is usually synonymous with an active lifestyle.  What breed you choose delves even further into what makes you…well you. Chocolate lab owner = easy going, carefree beach bum; German Shepard owner = loyal companion who would do anything for a friend; Mixed breed owner = down-to-earth individual who can either be found volunteering or hanging with their diverse group of friends.

Whatever your personal style, or your choice of breed, Fusion Gates provides options that allow you to match your personal style. Whether you need to create a boundary for safety reasons (staircase) or to define your personal sanctuary (priceless Persian rug) — why settle for boring when you can have a gate that is functional AND fabulous! With a sleek one-finger finial latch design, and a wide selection of interchangeable screens that allow you to be you, we guarantee you will fall in love with your Fusion Gate!

Let your personality and your personal style shine through. Visit www.fusiongates.com and choose a gate that matches your home, your style and even your pet.

KEEPING BELONGINGS SAFE

Keeping Your Belongings Just That
YOUR Belongings

Its been over a decade since my adorable six-month-old Rhodesian ridgeback chewed the heel off of my Kate Spade sandal, but the heartache it caused is still fresh. A black-tie event, one (or maybe two) too many glasses of champagneI had kicked off my heels before flopping into bed. I heard my pup at the foot of the bed the next morning chewing on somethingnever did it occur to me that it was my very expensive brand new sandal!

At the time I was living in a 100-year-old Victorian with wide doorways and narrow staircases. I couldn't find a gate that fit my decor or my doors. The phrase living dangerously took on a whole new meaning.

Im sure you will agree puppies chew anything and everything. I still mourn the loss of my sandal, which I only wore once by the way, but it could have been worse. Plastic childrens toys can pose a choking hazard to orally fixated pups; items thrown in the garbage, such as batteries can be toxic if consumed; medicine bottles left where your canine can reach them or even discarded chicken bones from last nights dinner can all be fatal to your pet if consumed.

In order to safe-guard your home from potentially dangerous situations, sometimes a gate is not only necessary for your peace of mind, but for the safety of your pet. Fusion Gates offers a wide selection of expanders to fit a multitude of spaces or passageways to ensure a perfect fit every time.

If you have a new puppy, dont learn your lesson the hard way. Visit www.fusiongates.com to see our full line of fashionable, yet functional gates.

Setting Boundaries, Not Borders

Allowing Pets to Become Workplace Partners

More and more companies are joining the trend of allowing employees to bring their dogs to work. Having your dog with you at your workplace has not only been shown to boost morale, but also increase productivity. A pet-friendly workplace is considered a perk — think of all the moolah you will save on pet-sitting and dog walking! Having your pet at work promotes a healthier lifestyle too since taking them out gets you up from your desk at regular intervals.

But as quickly as a well-behaved dog can bring employees together, a misbehaving canine can drive them apart. It is important for employers, as well as employees, to know proper dog etiquette and set rules. Defining clear boundaries for workplace pups can create a harmonious setting for all.

Fusion Gates offers a sleek, professional grade solution for creating borders, not boundaries. The Fusion Gate can be either be pressure or hardware mounted to accommodate a wide variety of openings, including stairwells. It also features a patented interchangeable art screen system that allows you to customize the look of the gate to match your office style. Versatile in both style and fit, the Fusion Gate offers customized gate solutions that are built to last and look sensational.

Let’s face it, our pets are our family...so it is no surprise that evidence has shown that job satisfaction, retention and productivity is boosted when employees are allowed to bring their pets to work. Jobs and dogs, the greatest teachers of lessons and blessings...it only make sense for them to be together.

HAPPY DOG, HAPPY JOB...Pictured above, Laika, front, and Skade enjoy a day at the office. Laika, named after the first dog in space, is a 4-year-old who loves to pose for the camera. Skade, named after the goddess of winter in Norse mythology, is a laid back 12-year-old.
